Accessibility
This builder is designed so the content you create works well for all learners, including those using assistive technologies.
WCAG 2.1 Alignment
Content built with OCU Canvas Builder follows common WCAG 2.1 practices so it’s more accessible when pasted into Canvas.
- Semantic HTML — Headings, lists, and sections use proper elements so screen readers can navigate.
- Heading hierarchy — Section Heading and toolbar H2/H3 encourage a logical order (H2 → H3).
- Keyboard support — Buttons and links are focusable and usable with the keyboard.
- ARIA where helpful — Labels and roles are used so controls and regions are announced correctly.
- Color contrast — OCU brand colors in the components meet contrast requirements for text and UI.
What You Can Do
- Add alt text for every image (use the Image or Image Card component and fill in the alt field).
- Use meaningful link text (e.g. “Syllabus (PDF)” instead of “Click here”).
- Keep headings in order and use them to break up content, not just for visual style.
- Provide captions or transcripts for video when possible; the builder supports embedding video in an accessible layout.
Testing in Canvas
After pasting into Canvas, use your institution’s accessibility checker (e.g. Canvas’s built-in tool or UDOIT) and fix any issues it reports.
