Tips & Best Practices
Use these tips to create clear, consistent, and accessible content for your Canvas courses.
Images & Media
- Always include alt text for images so screen readers and slow connections can understand the content.
- Use descriptive file names and keep image file sizes reasonable for faster loading.
Structure & Headings
- Use headings in logical order (H2, then H3, etc.) so everyone can scan and navigate the page.
- Use the Section Heading component or the toolbar H2/H3 for consistent OCU styling.
Accessibility & Contrast
- Keep color contrast accessible; the builder uses OCU brand colors that meet contrast guidelines.
- Avoid putting important information only in images or color alone.
Workflow
- Use the drag handle (grip icon) on each block to reorder components without copy-paste.
- Edit directly in the page or use the pencil icon for the full editor on a single component.
- Test your content in Canvas before publishing—paste into a draft page and check how it looks.
- Use “Copy All to Clipboard” when you’re done; paste into Canvas in the HTML view.
